Before Moving

Moving is a time-consuming process and it cannot be done overnight. Though it can be emotionally disturbing for some and psychologically unnerving for many; moving actually requires so much of our time, resources and energy. Nonetheless, one should start preparing for their move at least six weeks prior to the moving date, to avoid any last minute hiccups. The clock is ticking away! The countdown has begun.

  Things to check before moving:
  • Inform the post office near by that you are moving and apply for the change of address online.
  • List and inform all your friends, relatives, business firms, doctors and others who attend you daily about your move.
  • Sort out and dispose all unwanted goods so that the weight of your goods might be reduced.
  • Donate unwanted clothes and blankets and things that you no longer need to charitable organizations and obtain a receipt if possible for tax deduction.
  • If you are not moving the plants along donate them to hospitals or parks or gardens or to any other organizations.
  • If you are planning to move your pets, know whether the place you are planning to move allows them and make sure you go to a veterinarian and get certification of vaccination.
  • Donate all the books you would not need any more to the library near by and do not forget to return books that you have borrowed from the library.
  • Prefer using supplies of canned goods and frozen foods and other house hold goods before the move.
  • Do not shop and buy a lot of goods. Buy things that you can and will use before moving.
  • Prepare your family for the move. As apart of it visit places and people the family cherish.
